Our Club
Puppy Pushers currently consists of approximately 40 members from the Howard County area. We currently offer classes in obedience, showmanship and agility; and hope to add other dog sports in the coming years. We try to stay involved with our local dog community by volunteering with the Kokomo Humane Society. We welcome all potential members - including mini 4-H'ers! Both Mini's and puppies under 6 months are able to attend our classes but may only show for exhibition only at the county fair. Please consult the project rules for further information regarding our policies.
Our Training Methods
Puppy Pushers is proud to have made the switch to positive reinforcement training methods. These methods allow the 4-H'ers to break complicated behaviors into smaller pieces, increase understanding, and promote enthusiastic and reliable responses from their dogs. We strive to promote a happy, healthy, and fun relationship between 4-H'er and dog.
Our Leaders
Each Leader is an integral part of our club, bringing their own point of views and talents to the mix. We have various levels of training experience and backgrounds, with each Leader focusing on a specific aspect of keeping the club running smoothly.
Tammie Bock is our primary fundraiser coordinator, and also keeps track of all the club supplies. She has one German Shepherd named Mattie, and became involved in Puppy Pushers when her son Patrick joined the club in 2004. She looks forward to helping the club grow and improve. In her "day job", Tammie is the General Manager of the Hampton Inn & Suites in Kokomo.
Heidi Johnson is our primary volunteering coordinator and pitches in wherever needed in other aspects of our club. She has a terrier mix named Winnie, and became involved in Puppy Pushers when her daughter Hannah joined the club. Heidi looks forward to helping the club work to better our community and the lives of countless animals through our volunteering projects.
Candace Kirk is our primary organizer, and also assists with training at many of the club practices. She has 2 Papillons and a Toy Poodle, and has previously had Gordon Setters, a Golden Retriever, an Irish Setter, and a Beagle mix. She is a past member of Puppy Pushers, and became re-involved in the club when her daughter Kaylee was old enough to join 4-H. Candace has shown in AKC Conformation as well as trained Obedience and Agility. She hopes to begin competing with her Papillon soon. In her "day job", Candace is a Project Coordinator at Delphi.
Jenn Stanley is our primary instructor at all training sessions. She has 3 Shetland Sheepdogs (Shelties) and is a past member of Puppy Pushers. She has competed in Agility, Conformation, Junior Showmanship, Obedience, and Rally with her dogs - including currently pursuing an AKC Conformation Championship, Novice and Open Obedience titles, an Agility Championship, and a Started level Herding title on her youngest dog Merlin. In her "day job", Jenn is a college student majoring in Computer Information Systems and also runs her own dog training center, Anything's Pawsible.
